Rowan Community Church’s Community Groups exist to help us fulfill our mission to advance Christ’s kingdom to every hill & holler through life together.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
In a Community Group, you will regularly gather with other believers to open the Bible and discuss its truths. This may be done in various ways: discussing the sermon text, sharing/hearing what the Lord is teaching through private devotions, Book studies, or topical discussions.
By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. (John 13:35)
Community Groups are designed to be discussion-oriented and smaller in size, providing a different context for people to get to know and be known by others in the church. As you come to know and become known, the opportunities to display the love of Christ through encouragement, service, exhortation, admonishment, and all the other “one-another” commands in the Bible increase. This is for the good of the church and the glory of Christ!
The Bible is full of commands to pray and to it constantly (Matt. 6:9-10, 1 Thess. 5:16-17, Rom. 12:12, Heb. 4:16).
In the same way that Community Groups will help to keep God’s Word constant in our lives, they exist to help us be constant in prayer! As you regularly gather, you will be regularly praying for one another to grow in holiness, be sustained during trials, and for God to move powerfully through His people in this community.
For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. (1 Thess. 4:7)
Although it is not the only place, Community Groups are a great place to regularly confess sins, share struggles, and receive accountability from brothers and sisters. It is also another space for us to remind each other of the grace of the gospel of Christ
Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few (Matt. 9:37)
As believers, we have been made citizens of Christ’s kingdom and commissioned by our King to advance His gospel throughout the world. At RCC, we are committed to laboring for this harvest by sowing gospel seeds with our words and deeds, calling on people to repent of their sins, and praying to the Lord that even more laborers would be sent into this harvest. As a ministry of RCC, Community Groups exist to help us to grow in these ways! You will pursue collective engagement and gospel proclamation to unbelievers as a group. As a part of a Community Group, you will also pray for individual opportunities in your lives to declare His excellencies to those lost in darkness.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost (Luke 19:10)
Our Community Groups should foster a culture where non-believers feel welcomed, and believers can invite their friends, neighbors, and co-workers to see the gospel at work in our lives.
